There is a program at a public golf course to teach golf to 3yr olds. Is that too young?
Would I be wasting my money. She has a little plastic golf set that she loves. I don't play golf and am far from the country club set so it's not for social status.
Have to agree that 3 is too young. Since you do not golf what would be the purpose of the lessons? She can not play by herself so you would have to go with her. She is so young her shots would not have much distance and the number of strokes per hole would be very high. If she actually played her stroke count will probably piss some old koot off for slowing down play. There is the cost of clubs during a period she will be growing. Lastly she probably would not make it through 9 holes without tiring and you are out the greens fee.
Agree with let her have at it with the plastic set. Go to a golf shop and buy a bunch of the colored "wiffle" type golf balls (the ones that are full of holes) and let her swing away in the yard. If she stays with it, get her a new plastic set and more balls. Maybe around 5 or so you could buy her an true kids golf club. Whack that around the yard for a couple of years and if at 7 or so she still has an interest, then get the clubs and lessons.

04/22/07 Update
Was on a course today and a father and his very young son showed up. Thought the dad would be the one hitting but it was the son. I asked his age; 4. He said he has been swinging from before he was 2. Kid hit everything; drivers and irons. Dad had him hitting over a trap onto a green which he did with apparent ease. He was out there for over an hour. It was fun watching. However, even dad said 4 was too young for lessons. He just lets him hit; including from traps into the range or over traps onto greens but no lessons. Dad said he was too young.
Flying Plastic Golf Aces
